How to Add Style to Your Bathroom With a Shower Screen

One advantage of a shower screen versus a shower curtain is that a screen is very neutral and works with any colour or decor in the space. The screen can also open up the bathroom, making it look larger and roomier, whereas most curtains will simply cut off the bathroom area, making it seem smaller. If you're hesitant to get a shower screen for your bathroom because you're afraid that it might be so neutral that it becomes bland and dull, you might note some tips on how to add style to the screen, and to your bathroom overall.

Choose oversized hardware

The hardware of your shower screen refers to its clips, door hinges, handles, towel bars and other such features and accessories. Obviously this hardware will need to be a particular size to be functional, but you can make the shower screen even more attractive by choosing oversized pieces. Extra large clips or hinges, a large handle and thicker towel bars will help the shower screen to stand out, and bring some colour and style to the space. Instead of choosing hardware that is simply utilitarian, choose those pieces that catch your eyes and that will create some visual interest in the bathroom.

Add grilles

The small sections of wood running through a window, making it look as if the window is made of several panes of glass, are called grilles. You can add grilles to a shower screen as well, making it look as if the entire panel is made up of smaller sections of glass. This can break up the look of the glass and keep it from disappearing, and also add more wood or metal to the bathroom space, depending on the material you choose for those grilles. These grilles are especially good for long lengths of screen, as larger sections of plain glass might not add much visual interest to the bathroom.

Add some decoration

Since plain glass shower screens might look a bit dull, consider investing in a screen with a decorative touch. This can mean a frosted screen, or one that is etched to create the look of running water. Swirls can be added to the screen to soften square lines of bathroom flooring tile, or to coordinate with round mirrors over the bathroom sink. You might even have the etching or frosting coloured, so that you bring in some darker tones and make the screen more visible, so it doesn't look drab and bland.
